W 2012 roku premiera Black Radio spotkała się z entuzjastycznym przyjęciem, Jay-Z w swoim Life+Times nazwał tę płytę „albumem, który znalazł dla siebie idealną niszę między jazzem, R&B i hip hopem”, a „Rolling Stone” pisał: „Glasper porywa się na poszukiwanie nowego stylu hip hop jazzu. Co ciekawe, znajduje go”. „USA Today” głosiło: „Glasper z powodzeniem uczynił swą muzykę dostępną słuchaczom, autentyczną, daleką od tej, która dziś dominuje w stacjach radiowych grających tzw. czarną muzykę”. Na Black Radio wystąpili tacy wokaliści, jak: Erykah Badu, Bilal, Lupe Fiasco, Ledisi, Chrisette Michele, Musiq Soulchild i yasiin bey. Po premierze płyty Robert Glasper pojawił się w telewizji m.in. w stacji CBS w Late Show With David Letterman, w NBC w Tonight Show With Jay Leno i Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Black Radio zdobyło nagrodę Grammy 2013 w kategorii Najlepszego Albumu R&B.
